Sunsoft's Blaster Master spin-off on Game Boy. The franchise changes face: top-down action instead of side-view, alternating armored vehicle and on-foot phases. Less striking than the NES original but well built, with an interesting puzzle-action structure. A good minor Sunsoft.

Is Blaster Master Jr. still worth playing in 2026?

Blaster Master Boy is a portable spin off of Sunsoft's series, swapping the NES game's vehicle exploration for top down action, in truth closer to Bomb Jack than to the original. That identity confusion aside, the game offers decent shooting and puzzle phases with a certain retro charm. The whole thing stays minor and repetitive, though, far from the richness of Blaster Master. Best reserved for the curious about the Sunsoft catalogue, without expecting the depth of the title whose name it bears.
