The first Burnout entry, establishing the crash-focused arcade racing series. Less polished than its successors but already carrying the DNA that would define the franchise. An interesting historical curio for series fans.

Description
The first Burnout, released in 2001 by Criterion. Built on a simple idea — drive at terminal speed against the flow of civilian traffic — the already-spectacular game laid the foundations for what would become a cult PS2 racing series.

Is Burnout still worth playing in 2026?

The first entry in Criterion's racing series, Burnout bets everything on extreme speed and risk taking, where you graze oncoming traffic to fill a boost gauge, in a constant thrill rewarding daring. The exhilarating sense of speed, the spectacular crash system and the frantic pace lay the foundations of a cult arcade formula. The limited content against the sequels and a period production have aged. A good racing game for fans of snappy arcade racing and thrills.
