Story
"Solid"
The western edition keeps the clarity that makes the game work: bubbles in frank, perfectly distinct colours, an uncluttered board, and the series' two dinosaurs commenting on play from the bottom of the screen. The backdrops stay deliberately discreet, colourful but uncrowded, so reading the clusters never suffers.
Gameplay
"Masterful"
Banking the bubble off the walls to match colours and trigger cascading drops takes a handful of seconds to learn. The precise aim and the constant rising tension make every board snappy, alone or head-to-head. The dressing is dated, but this crystal-clear marriage of reflex and anticipation stays devilishly effective today.
Fun
"From the very first seconds"
Aim, group three bubbles of the same colour and set off cascading drops: the mechanic lands from the very first shot. The tension climbs as the ceiling creeps down, and the versus mode quickly turns into a friendly little war. Crystal clear to grasp, sly to tame, this colourful puzzle switches back on by pure reflex and never lets go.
Addictiveness
"Obsessive"
Aiming, grouping three bubbles of the same shade and setting off a chain avalanche awakens a chaining reflex that's hard to put down. The versus mode and rising difficulty turn each screen into a tense duel. The principle stays that of the series, but its immediate clarity and edgy tempo keep a formidable pull.

Is Bust-A-Move 2 - Arcade Edition still worth playing in 2026?

A sequel to Taito's bubble puzzle, Bust-A-Move 2 - Arcade Edition perfects the Puzzle Bobble formula by popping clusters of same colour bubbles aimed with a cannon, in an addictive rise in tension. The purity of the concept, the perfect readability and above all the fearsomely intense two player versus make it a peak of competitive puzzling. The immediate pleasure and the depth of timing have not aged a day. For a puzzle fan, a Puzzle Bobble fan or a player after duels, the title keeps a timeless effectiveness and addiction.
