The game's strongest image is neither the favela nor the gulag, it is war imported onto American soil: suburban houses turned into firing posts, bullet-riddled fast-food signs, Washington under a dark red sky of ash. By planting the vocabulary of everyday life in the middle of firefights, the art direction makes the invasion more unsettling than any exotic setting.
With Hans Zimmer at the helm, the soundtrack raises the military shooter to Hollywood blockbuster status: crushing orchestral scope, menacing brass and end-of-the-world tension carry every mission.
