Damage is read live on the bodywork and does not wait for the end of the stage: a wing crumples, a headlight goes out, a bonnet lifts and blocks part of the windscreen. Since the camera often stays behind the vehicle, that gradual deformation occupies the exact centre of the picture throughout the run.
