Cel-shading with bold outlines evoking the original comic, sharp chiaroscuro and stylised violence: the game transposes the comic book with audacity. The contrast between light and darkness directly serves the gameplay as much as the aesthetic. This visual direction, dark and graphic, asserts a strong identity.
Haunted by the woman he lost, Jackie must once again reckon with the demon gnawing at him while a cult hunts him down. More intimate, the tale plays on madness and grief until it blurs reality. This sequel, dark and touching, carefully extends one of the most singular stories in the FPS.
An FPS from Digital Extremes drawn from the comic, The Darkness II has Jackie Estacado grapple with a demonic entity granting him two tentacles that devour and tear enemies alongside his firearms. The four-limb combat system, the comic-inspired cel-shaded art direction and the stylised violence give the title a real identity. The short campaign and the linearity weigh on it. A good FPS for fans of snappy shooting with supernatural powers and a dark, horror-tinged mob mood.
