Description
Fast 3D versus fighter built around counters and arena hazards. Created by Tecmo and Team Ninja, released in 1998 in Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia. Eight fighters including Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa, Triangle system for countering attacks, cel-shaded animation and destructible arenas. Multiple regional releases.
The first entry of Tecmo's saga ported to PlayStation, Dead or Alive imposes its counter based system and its fast pace, more accessible than its rivals while keeping real depth. The arenas with danger zones and the spectacular ring outs bring genuine dynamism to the bouts. The 3D modelling has aged and the content stays thin against later versions. A snappy, readable fighting game to recommend for fans of 3D versus and the curious about the series' beginnings.
