Deep Fighter, from Criterion and a spiritual successor to Sub Culture, banks on ambitious underwater exploration aboard a submarine. The freedom of navigation and the submerged atmosphere appeal at times, and the concept stays original in the console's landscape. Sadly, complex controls, an often confusing camera and an uneven pace have aged badly and hamper the immersion. Reserved for patient fans of the genre, more drawn to its atmosphere and ambition than to genuinely comfortable handling today.
