The two worlds are opposed through material: Stark lines up smooth surfaces, screens, glass and rain-washed concrete under a permanent drizzle, while Arcadia piles up wood, dyed fabrics, irregular stone and lanterns. Moving from one to the other changes less the place than the imagined touch, and that contrast carries the whole point.
The accompaniment adopts a film's pacing rather than a game's: long stretches without music, then a theme entering exactly on a line of dialogue and withdrawing as soon as it is over. The two worlds are given separate instrumentations, cold electronics on one side, strings and flutes on the other, never mixing.
Intrigued by mysterious messages, a young woman sees her search bind two parallel worlds, one technological, the other magical. A sequel to a point-and-click classic, the tale wins you over with its nuanced characters and adult melancholy. Its careful writing and open dilemmas made it a striking interactive tale.
