The action unfolds on battlefields black with people, where a single officer scythes down whole armies. The art direction bets on the legibility of numbers: soldiers by the hundreds, factions told apart by their colours, Wei the blue, Wu the red, Shu the green, and generals in laden garb that stand out against the mass. Three-Kingdoms China becomes a warlike fresco saturated with motion.

The wealth of additional content and the spotlight on emblematic figures will delight the base game faithful. Without it the interest drops, and the genre's repetition remains. An expansion to reserve for musou devotees and Three Kingdoms history fans.
