The Getaway sequel retaining the London setting with new characters and storylines. Technical improvements are noticeable but gameplay issues persist. Less noticed than the first entry, it mainly satisfies fans of the original London open world.

Description
An SCEE sequel released in 2004 that returns to London with three new protagonists: a corrupt cop, a robber and a cabaret dancer. Team Soho keeps the no-HUD philosophy and broadens the open-world missions, in a crime-film mood even darker than the original.

A questionable morality

Beneath its gritty London thriller looks, the adventure is about slipping into a crook's shoes: you rob, you tear through traffic, you gun down the competition across a city modeled in earnest. The plot invokes a family to rescue to justify the carnage, yet most of your playtime is spent embodying exactly the sort of man the police are after.

Is Getaway, The - Black Monday still worth playing in 2026?

A sequel to Sony London's open world action, The Getaway Black Monday extends the realistic formula in a carefully recreated criminal London, following a new dark plot across several protagonists. The cinematic mood, the fidelity of the city and the mature tone win over fans of urban crime fiction. The rigid driving and gunfights, inherited from the first entry, have aged. A title for fans of criminal open worlds with a British mood and the curious about 2000s video game crime fiction.
