Killer is Dead is Goichi Suda's last PS3 game with Mondo Zappa, cyborg executioner. Wild and unique art direction, stylised action gameplay, typically offset Suda51 narrative. Deliciously strange.

Cel-shading of sharp contrasts by Suda51: deep black, golden flashes and surreal design compose a universe stylish to excess. The pop imagery and theatrical staging overflow with audacity. This visual direction, elegant and baffling, asserts an auteur signature immediately recognisable.
An action game from Grasshopper Manufacture under Suda51, Killer Is Dead follows the executioner Mondo Zappa on elimination missions tinged with surrealism, carried by a sharp cel shaded art direction blending black, gold and blood red. The katana and mechanical arm combat system, the dreamlike mood and the unique visual style make the whole salt of the title. The repetitive structure and some disconcerting passages divide opinion. A stylish action game to recommend for fans of Suda51 and resolutely auteur driven game worlds.
