A remake of the very first Tomb Raider, this game revives its mythic tombs with Legend's modern engine. The Peruvian caverns, Greece's toppled columns and Egypt's chambers of the 1996 title are reborn as vast, deserted, vertical spaces cut for climbing and acrobatics. The art direction makes these silent ruins, immense and mineral, a solemn playground, a reverent homage to the settings that founded the series.
The music turns rare the better to reward exploration. Over long stretches, one advances in the sole echo of footsteps and the cavern, until a grandiose hall opens: then the score blossoms into an orchestral wonder-theme, broad strings and solemn brass that salute the discovery. This dosing, where the music arises to crown the great moments, turns each new chamber into a revelation and the entrance to a temple into an event.
