Cel-shading of stunning faithfulness to Kishimoto's manga, spectacular jutsus and destructible arenas: the anime seems playable frame by frame. The crisp outlines and flamboyant effects restore all the energy of the fights. This graphic virtuosity from CyberConnect2 stands as a benchmark of adaptation.
The expanded edition adds its own sonic block: the chapter devoted to Kabuto gets colder textures, high strings and serpentine pads that cut against the original game's martial brass. The added fights reuse existing themes but in shorter arrangements, cut for confrontations with no narrative build-up.
The additional content takes on a character left aside: Kabuto, whose search for identity, built from borrowings and successive moltings, mirrors heroes who at least know where they come from. This isolated chapter, with no link to the main thread, offers one of the rare moments when the series takes an interest in an antagonist for his own sake.
