id Software offer a post-apocalyptic FPS with vehicles and vertical arenas. The MegaTexture rendering impresses on 360, the shooting keeps the id DNA, but the world writing stays thin and the ending disappoints. A solid shooter that just lacks substance to stand the test of time.

id Software paints every surface by hand rather than repeating patterns: the technique used means no texture is ever reused twice, so the rusted sheet metal, peeling posters and oil stains are unique to their spot. The result gives settings of rare richness, jury-rigged shanty towns and ochre canyons where every square meter has been treated as a painting.
