Sonic Heroes serves up a 3D Sonic in trios. Speed, fly and power roles, colourful levels and a fun local multiplayer. Uneven yet sturdier than its neighbours.

A Sega and Sonic Team platformer released in 2003, the sixth main 3D Sonic franchise entry. Four three-character teams (Sonic-Tails-Knuckles, Shadow-Rouge-E-123 Omega, Amy-Cream-Big, Espio-Charmy-Vector) traverse fourteen varied stages. Each team member brings a unique skill. Multi-platform release with 4-player multiplayer support. A solid return to the classic formula.

Is Sonic Heroes still worth playing in 2026?

A 3D platformer from Sonic Team, Sonic Heroes innovates by having you control teams of three characters with complementary roles, speed, flight and power, switched on the fly to clear obstacles. The frantic pace, the bright colours and the levels designed for speed carry on the Sonic spirit in 3D. The fickle camera and a certain stiffness in the jumps have aged. A dynamic platformer to recommend for fans of the blue hedgehog and lovers of snappy 3D action with multiple teams.
