GTA-style cop sandbox with brawling and gunplay. Decent open world, repetitive missions, kitschy plot. Acceptable at the time, well behind Rockstar's offerings today.

Is True Crime - Streets of LA still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2003, this Activision game applies the open world structure to urban crime drama, in a recreated Los Angeles where a cop runs the investigation between firefights, driving and bare handed combat. The morality system, which judges the player's acts, and the multiple endings give it a real identity. The ambition runs into an uneven presentation and improvable mechanics. The freedom of movement and the cop show tone compensate in part, and fans of city action find an interesting alternative to the period's benchmarks.
