A tri-Ace action-RPG with a singular concept, where a valkyrie recruits the souls of fallen warriors, praised for its sumptuous 2D aesthetic and soundtrack. Its very limited runs made it one of the most expensive and coveted RPGs on the console, especially in its Western version. Its fervent demand and a narrow supply support a high value, matching its cult status.

Is Valkyrie Profile still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 1999 on PS1 in Japan and in 2000 in the West, tri Ace's project offers a role playing game of astonishing originality around the valkyrie Lenneth who recruits dead souls for the Ragnarok war. The chapter structure with limited time, the turn based combat assigned to buttons and the two dimensional dungeon exploration install a real identity. Motoi Sakuraba's music and the art direction keep their elegance. Recommended today for fans of authorial JRPG and for tri Ace devotees curious about a defining studio signature on Sony's first home console hardware globally.
