On PS2, X-Men Legends stands out for its staging of multiplayer. Up to four mutants act together on one screen, seen in a three-quarter overhead view, each recognizable by their colors and power effects. The shared interface lines up the team's gauges side by side, and fights become a group choreography where you coordinate attacks and healing, couch-play oblige.
The story takes as its heroine a young mutant recruited by Professor Xavier's school, through whom the player discovers the world's fear of mutants. Between the novice's difficult integration, the threat of Magneto's Brotherhood and a wider peril, the plot unfolds a theme dear to the comics, the place of the different in a society that dreads them.
An action RPG from Raven Software, X-Men Legends levels up a team of four mutants in isometric view, with leveling, unlockable powers and co-op for up to four players, in a story faithful to the X-Men universe. The ability to build your team, the variety of powers and the co-op pleasure win over fans of comics and hack and slash. The repetition of the clashes weighs on solo play. A title for fans of co-op action RPGs and the X-Men universe on PS2.
