An original, well-executed blend, where destroying the environment genuinely changes strategy. The story is forgettable and the whole a bit repetitive, but the dual role of tower defense and twin-stick action stays a joy.

Description
A cross between tower defense and twin-stick shooter by EXOR Studios, ported to Switch in 2019. You play an alien species invading Earth: you must build towers to repel human military waves while personally piloting a destructive ship. Fully destructible environments and a dual strategy-action layer forge a formula as original as it is exhilarating.

Memorable bosses

The bosses are colossi you must bring down while defending your base: the game demands you fight two battles at once. That dual constraint, combined with their crushing size and the collapsing scenery, delivers fights of rare intensity.

An underrated gem

An unlikely cross between tower defense and shooter, whose execution surprises by how right it feels. For the originality of its dual strategy-action layer, its fully destructible environments and its readability, it's an overlooked gem deserving far more attention.

Is X-Morph: Defense still worth playing in 2026?

Years after release, X-Morph: Defense remains an original, overlooked cross between tower defense and twin-stick shooter, whose execution surprises by how right it feels. Its fully destructible environments and dual strategy-action layer offer sensations few games provide. As tower defense enjoys renewed interest, it's a gem deserving far more attention. On Switch, its levels replay easily, perfect for a good dose of strategic destruction on the go.
