From Russia with Love reconstructs the sixties trappings of the 1963 film, tailored suits, a paneled Orient Express, Istanbul alleys and period gadgets, all modeled around a digitized Sean Connery who lent his features again. To the film-faithful places are added invented sequences, jet-pack and helicopter, that stretch the retro look toward pure action.
The soundtrack draws on the golden age of spy jazz, arrangements inherited from the 1963 score, languorous brass and hushed rhythms that evoke an elegant Cold War. The title theme once sung by Matt Monro hovers over the whole, and this resolutely sixties anchoring clearly sets the game apart from the electronic scores of later Bonds.
