An ambitious open-world RPG that reaches well beyond its technical means. Alaron's quest and its medieval-fantasy world have real character, but the engine wheezes, combat is laborious and the N64's blur clouds readability. Best left to patient explorers.

Collector interest

The US edition of THQ's Aidyn Chronicles. More obtainable than its PAL counterpart, it remains a late niche RPG whose loose price stays reasonable. The NTSC run was larger, keeping a steady secondhand supply, and the gap to sealed mainly reflects the trouble of finding clean copies of a poor seller. Of real interest to fans of Western N64 RPGs, but without the scarcity premium carried by the European version.
