A bonkers run and gun born on the web and lovingly ported to GameCube. Deliberately crude cartoon style, absurd humour and properly punchy difficulty. Short but intense, perfect with friends. An indie gem before indie was a thing.

An underrated gem

Born from a small Flash game, this run-and-gun by The Behemoth flaunts an irresistible cartoon style and a brutal, old-arcade difficulty. Put out by a modest publisher, it slipped through the cracks against the big releases. Anyone nostalgic for Metal Slug, and fans of frantic two-player challenges, will find a treat here.

Is Alien Hominid still worth playing in 2026?

Born from a Flash game turned cult hit, Alien Hominid is a 2D run and gun openly inspired by Metal Slug, where a little alien guns down agents and vehicles at a frantic pace. The cartoon art style, absurd humor and fearsome difficulty make it a treat for genre fans, especially in two player co-op. Its brevity and demands may put some off, but the generous animation and punk energy stay intact. An independent arcade gem that has aged very well, ideal for snappy sessions.
