Alien Syndrome adapts Sega's top down arcade shooter to Master System where you free hostages in infested space stations. The 8 bit version loses fluidity but keeps the original's oppressive intensity with iconic organic creatures. A reference for the console's top down shoot.

Is Alien Syndrome still worth playing in 2026?

A port of Sega's top down shooter, Alien Syndrome sends the hero through infested stations to free hostages before the countdown blows, then face a monstrous boss. The blend of maze exploration, multidirectional shooting and timed tension works well, especially in twos. The 8 bit production stays decent despite some losses against the cabinet. For a retro arcade shooting fan, someone curious about the Sega catalogue or a player after co-op, the title keeps a gripping tension and a direct pleasure.
