An emotional musical RPG from Aquaplus where magic flows through song. The Grathmelding crafting system is inventive. The rich world and likeable characters offset a sometimes slow pace. A worthy discovery for JRPG enthusiasts.

At the heart of the game, the sumptuous songs in the Hymmnos language by Akiko Shikata and Haruka Shimotsuki carry a mystical emotion of rare beauty. Blending lyrical singing, world music and orchestra, the music becomes the very engine of the story's magic. This singular vocal richness remains one of the most spellbinding in the JRPG.

Is Ar Tonelico - Melody of Elemia still worth playing in 2026?

An RPG from Gust and Banpresto, Ar Tonelico Melody of Elemia blends exploration, turn based combat and a system of crafting magic songs at the heart of its world where music shapes reality. The writing centred on the bond between the hero and his Reyvateils, the enchanting soundtrack and the polished art direction win over fans of atypical JRPGs. The slow pace and a sometimes light tone divide. A singular title for fans of Japanese RPGs with a strong musical and narrative identity.
