Blending nervy synths and vibrant J-pop songs from Inti Creates, the music electrifies every assault with catchy vocal melodies. The tracks trigger mid-combo, rewarding the player's momentum with a galvanising refrain. This electro-pop energy, cut for the action, remains a treat for enthusiasts.
The North American version of the Gunvolt compilation, released by XSEED in a relatively modest run for a late-generation 3DS physical exclusive. Its desirability rests mostly on the scarcity of sealed NTSC copies, already hard to come by at launch since no reprints followed. For Inti Creates completists it is the only clean way to own both early Gunvolt entries on cart without importing, which gives it a specific niche on the US market.
An underrated gem
A compilation pairing two electrifying action-platformers from Inti Creates, spiritual heirs to Mega Man Zero, where you tag foes and then unleash devastating combos. Mostly an import affair and buried in the eShop, the set went unnoticed. Snappy and stylish, it's a must for fans of demanding platform-action.
Is Azure Striker Gunvolt - Striker Pack still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2015 on 3DS in this Striker Pack gathering the game and its sequel, Inti Creates' project offers a nervous action platformer heir to Mega Man, signed by veterans of the series. The hero Gunvolt locks his enemies with a shot then strikes them with an electric discharge, a targeting mechanic that energises demanding and highly readable levels. The careful pixel art, the driving soundtrack and the scoring system reward mastery and speed. The anime story and the sharp difficulty target an informed audience. An excellent action platformer, recommended for fans of challenge and of nervous old school play.
