Well-made Asterix platformer on Game Gear. The colourful visuals and Gaulish humour are faithful to the spirit of the comics. Good game for children and franchise fans.

Collector interest

Asterix and the Great Rescue, a platformer drawn from Uderzo and Goscinny's comic, released in America and Brazil. A decent adaptation of a licence popular in Europe, its Western pressing stays accessible and its value modest. Its collecting interest mainly targets Asterix game fans keen to gather the franchise's Game Gear releases, rather than any marked rarity.

Is Asterix and the Great Rescue still worth playing in 2026?

A colourful platformer drawn from the comic, Asterix and the Great Rescue sends the Gaulish duo across several worlds to free their friends. The faithful art direction and the humour of the settings appeal, but the sometimes imprecise handling and uneven level design rein in the fun. The licence's charm and the variety of environments partly offset these flaws. For an Asterix fan or a forgiving retro platforming fan, the title keeps an above all sentimental interest.
