The first entry of the Dusk cycle hands its drawing to Hidari, whose soft watercolour colours a slowly declining world. Washed-out palettes, ruins reclaimed by vegetation, faded light compose a peaceful melancholy. The art direction moves away from Arland's chipper tale toward a fragile beauty, that of a universe fading without drama, by slow degrees.
The Dusk music grows sparser and more pensive. Faint pads, spaced piano, soft acoustic timbres install a melancholy mood, apart from Arland's briskness. The score breathes at the slow rhythm of a wilting world, leaving silence between the phrases, as if to listen to the universe withdraw a little more with each season.
The story follows Ayesha, a quiet apothecary, gone to seek her vanished sister across slowly declining lands. Alchemy here is only a means, a tool to advance along a faint trail. Free-paced, without great menace, the story is an intimate quest: to find a loved one in a fading world, before the clues fade too.

The sublime art direction, the depth of the synthesis system and the contemplative atmosphere win over fans of cosy JRPGs. The time constraint and a measured pace divide. A title for fans of Japanese alchemy RPGs and the Atelier series after a more bittersweet atmosphere.
