A real-time strategy game by Kuju, a hybrid of action and light tactics. Likeable units, short missions and a quirky tone halfway between WW2 pastiche and cartoon. Not the deepest in its class but with a real identity and pleasant pad controls.

Description
Commander Winston Churchill leads Battalion Wars soldier battalions in this Nintendo GameCube strategy game. Published by Nintendo, released in North America in November 2005. Real-time strategy game with command of varied troops, tactical missions and multiplayer modes.
A real time offshoot of the Advance Wars strategy series, Battalion Wars from Nintendo swaps turn based play for action battles where you directly command your units in the field. The blend of shooting, tactics and troop direction is original and endearing, carried by a good natured military cartoon tone. The command interface and a certain confusion in the heat of action show their limits. For fans of snappy strategy and the Wars universe, it offers a refreshing approach that has aged rather well.
