Collector interest

The Rare/Tradewest crossover that arrived at the tail end of the NES cycle, particularly short on PAL European shelves. The gold Tradewest cart with European labelling is one of the last big NES PAL releases and benefits from end-of-generation scarcity pressure. PAL CIB is noticeably harder to source than the US version, and the cote climbs steadily among completionist Rare collectors.

Better with friends

A muscular crossover between two beat-'em-up legends, where two players alternate toads and twin brothers to smash through hordes side by side. Cooperation is a blast but tough: the fearsome difficulty bonds duos who learn to cover each other and pace themselves together. A few frustrating spikes can sting, but clearing a hellish stretch in one shared surge brings a memorable common pride.

Is Battletoads-Double Dragon still worth playing in 2026?

Battletoads-Double Dragon is the unlikely crossover between Rare's Battletoads and Technos's Lee brothers. The result is generous, varied and less punishing than the original Battletoads. Moves from both franchises blend intelligently, levels mix side-scrolling and memorable set pieces. Two beat 'em up legends meeting for a solid, joyful result, particularly successful in cooperative play. For 8-bit beat 'em up fans and unlikely crossover lovers, still a strongly recommended title to try today.
