The game rebuilds places players know by heart. Cavia takes the training facility, the mansion corridors and the ruined streets and renders them with dynamic lighting, torch beams carving out the corners and shadows moving while the camera advances on its own. Seeing familiar sets treated this way produces a vertigo specific to this version.
The soundtrack works like an album of covers. Themes from the three revisited episodes come back rearranged for full orchestra, sometimes chained into a medley inside one chapter, and the save room melody resurfaces exactly where the player catches their breath. Recognising a motif before recognising the room becomes a pleasure of its own.
Is Resident Evil - The Umbrella Chronicles still worth playing in 2026?
A rail shooter from Capcom, Biohazard Umbrella Chronicles revisits the great moments of Resident Evil on on rails routes where the Wiimote acts as a gun. The spectacular staging, the cut scenes from the original games and two player shooting deliver a snappy, generous retelling of the saga. The on rails format limits freedom and the replayability rests mainly on scoring. An excellent light gun game for Resident Evil fans and lovers of pointer shooting in multiplayer.
