A neat little portable action gem where Jason and his SOPHIA tank dig through caverns crawling with mutants. The shift between top down and side scrolling stages holds up nicely, and eight zones deliver real exploration. A treat for Sunsoft fans.

Collector interest

The North American release of this GBC Blaster Master sequel circulated more widely than the PAL edition, making it the more attainable copy stateside. Sunsoft, already fading commercially as the 2000s dawned, put out only a handful of GBC titles, and the name alone sustains niche demand. Interest rests on the lineage to the NES series, whose handheld outings remained unusual.

An underrated gem

Driving the SOPHIA tank between underground exploration and on-foot shootouts loses none of its bite in this portable take, faithful to the series' NES spirit. Its slightly dated presentation and quiet release left it in the original's shadow. For anyone who loves interlocking exploration and old-school difficulty, it's an unjustly forgotten sequel.
