The Pre-Sequel takes the loot to the Moon with low-grav jumps and tactical oxy-kits. It is shorter than Borderlands 2 but the Aussie humour and a young Jack angle make it well worth the trip for fans.

Cel-shading with thick inked outlines, a garish palette and a deranged post-apocalyptic universe: the game looks like a playable comic book. The over-the-top design of the enemies and the trashy aesthetic compose an immediately recognisable identity. This visual direction, stylish and unbridled, left a lasting mark on the FPS.

Collector interest

North American (NTSC-U) edition of Borderlands The Pre-Sequel!, an in-between 2K Australia entry set between the first two, adding lunar gravity and new characters, with a reception a notch below the main entries. Still common on the US market, its collector interest is modest and rests mainly on the completeness of a beloved series rather than scarcity. A supporting piece for those gathering the Borderlands franchise in NTSC-U.

Better with friends

Loot pillaging and unhinged gunplay marry here in four-player co-op where everyone cultivates their class and a wild arsenal. Mutual aid dominates, but the race for legendary guns breeds a teasing one-upmanship full of twists. Playable two-player in local split-screen, it suits express sessions as well as long campaigns, always with savage humor.

Is Borderlands - The Pre-Sequel! still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2014 on Xbox 360, this entry by 2K Australia slots between the first two Borderlands, setting the action on the moon Elpis and the Helios station. The big novelty is low gravity and oxygen, which add gliding jumps, ground slams and a welcome vertical dimension to the gunfights. Playing former villains like Athena or Wilhelm shifts the perspective. More modest and a touch repetitive, it keeps the series' effective loot loop and a successful sense of humour. For looter shooter and co op fans, this in between chapter stays enjoyable today.
