The Japanese flavour of the N64 Castlevania. Its 3D gothic atmosphere flares up in great moments, the labyrinthine castle has real teeth and the two heroes complement each other well, yet the camera and controls show their age and hint at a rushed development. Cult curio for devoted fans.

Is Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku - Real Action Adventure still worth playing in 2026?

Akumajou Dracula Mokushiroku is the Japanese version of the Castlevania released on N64, which moves the series into 3D following Reinhardt and Carrie through Dracula's castle. The gothic atmosphere, the variety of traps and the ambition of a 3D transition stay praiseworthy, even if the wayward camera and dated handling were debated from the start. For fans of the Castlevania saga and retro survival-action curious about this first foray into three dimensions, it is a singular title that must be earned.
