First portable Castlevania. Christopher Belmont, upgradeable whip, four gothic levels. Scrolling chugs, the hero is slow, some jumps wreck your nerves. Still a Castlevania of pure atmosphere, impeccable OST by Norio Hanzawa. More historical than recommendable; Belmont's Revenge does everything better.

Story

From the Game Boy's modest capabilities, Konami draws gothic themes that are surprisingly evocative, gloomy and melodic at once. The music tracks Christopher Belmont's slow progress through the castle, heightening every shiver. This chiptune achievement, dark and atmospheric, marked the saga's handheld debut.

Castlevania - The Adventure, the American version of Konami's first portable Castlevania, out as early as 1989, distinct from the later European pressing. As the saga's first incursion on Game Boy in the United States, it carries a historical value for fans of the series. Its desirability lies in that precedence, its pioneering role on the console and steady demand from Castlevania collectors.
