Sega puzzle in its August 1999 Nintendo Power edition, a historical paradox of a title emblematic of rival Sega distributed on Nintendo's flash-cartridge service at the very end of the Super Famicom's life. This late release on rechargeable media, outside any classic commercial channel, makes it a doubly unusual curiosity. Desirability rests on that improbable Sega-on-Nintendo crossover and on the rare status of last-minute Nintendo Power games.

Is Columns still worth playing in 2026?

The Super Famicom version of Sega's famous puzzle, Columns carries over the principle of stacking gem columns and matching them in threes to clear them. The clear mechanic, the accelerating rhythm and the two player mode keep a timeless addictive pull. This Japanese edition distributed via Nintendo Power stays obscure and arrived late on the machine. An efficient, soothing puzzler for genre fans and collectors of rare versions of Sega classics on a rival console.
