The Hammerin' Harry sequel enriches the formula with new environments and mechanics. Gen-san gains in power and variety. More of the same, slightly improved. Fans will be won over.

Japan only Famicom sequel in Irem's series, subtitled Akage no Dan no Gyakushuu, released in 1992 at the very end of the console's life. Rarer than the first entry, it combines territorial exclusivity with a small late print run as the Japanese industry moved toward the Super Famicom. The interest targets completists of the Gen-san series and the Irem catalog, drawn by recognized quality and a strictly domestic release.

Is Daiku no Gen-san 2 - Akage no Dan no Gyakushuu still worth playing in 2026?

A sequel to the Irem platformer, Daiku no Gen-san 2 takes the hammer-wielding carpenter into new, enriched construction-site levels, with more enemies, mechanics and a refined sense of pacing. The hero's charm, the hammer attack and the humor stay intact, in an action platformer more generous than the first. The difficulty stays steep and the formula familiar. An estimable pick for fans of overlooked NES platforming and lovers of the Gen-san mascot keen to extend the adventure.
