Darksiders II puts Death in the spotlight in an even vaster adventure. Added RPG loot system, two distinct worlds, Death more agile than War. Less cohesive than the first but more generous in content. Solid.

Dark fantasy of heroic proportions by Joe Madureira: thick comic line, bold colours and outsized creatures compose an apocalypse drawn with panache. The energy of the design and the readability of the settings overflow with character. This art direction, stylish and generous, asserts an inimitable signature.

Stepping into Death's boots means roaming vast semi-open lands dotted with puzzle dungeons, optional caverns and hack-and-slash loot that begs to be sifted through. The skill tree and side quests flesh out progression, while New Game+ and Nightmare mode reignite the hunt. That action-RPG breadth is what accounts for its well-regarded longevity.
An action adventure from Vigil Games, Darksiders II stages Death, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, in an epic quest blending snappy combat, Zelda-style dungeon exploration and action RPG progression with loot and skills. The grandiose art direction, the variety of environments and the richness of the gameplay win you over. The excessive length and a sometimes uneven production weigh on it. An excellent action adventure for fans of hack and slash, exploration and post-apocalyptic fantasy worlds.
