A technically impressive Doom port for the hardware, but clearly cut down versus PC. More of a curio than a go to today.

Collector interest

The PAL port of Doom on SNES, a technical feat by Williams Entertainment running on the Super FX2 chip. A European edition less plentiful than the NTSC one, it draws both Super FX chip cart collectors and fans of the Doom cult. A complete PAL card box with multilingual manual commands more intact. Cut down against the PC yet astonishing on the hardware, this console Doom draws its desirability from the id Software name, the onboard chip and the smaller PAL print run.

A questionable morality

Saving the planet from a hellish invasion makes a flawless pretext for what remains, controller in hand, a march down corridors devoted to pulverizing everything that moves, one after another. No questions, no warnings: you push forward, you shoot, you scoop up ammo to start over. The noble mission cheerfully blurs into one big shooting gallery without a single lull.
