Origins is one of the finest modern Western RPGs, with its origin prologues, political dilemmas and mature writing echoing Baldur's Gate. The tactical system breathes and the cast earns a top spot in BioWare's pantheon.

Story
"Masterful"
BioWare paints an earthy fantasy, stone grey and mud brown, where wonder has given way to the grime of medieval campaigns. Its boldest signature is the blood: after every battle it smears faces and armor all the way into the cutscenes, and nobody wipes it off. The darkspawn, stitched flesh and rusted plate, seem to have come out of the ground rather than out of a bestiary.

Rallying a ragtag army against the darkspawn means crossing several regions with self-contained stories, from the mages' Circle to the dwarven city. Each arc resolves through weighty choices, while the long campfire conversations forge bonds that linger. Between multiple endings, romances and tactical builds to test, players keep coming back, and the adventure holds its place as a cornerstone of the genre.

Collector interest

A BioWare masterpiece, Dragon Age Origins reconnects with old-school tactical RPG through its multiple origins, weighty choices and praised writing. Widespread in the West, its Japanese pressing with an extra-content disc remains markedly rarer, its interest combining this genre-classic status and this fleshed-out local release. A safe bet for fans of narrative RPGs.

Is Dragon Age - Origins still worth playing in 2026?

Released in 2009 on Xbox 360, BioWare's Dragon Age Origins is one of the great Western role playing games of its generation, an avowed heir to Baldur's Gate in a dark fantasy world. The multiple origins of the hero, which change the opening and how characters see you, give real depth. The tactical combat system, pausable to order your companions, demands thought. The mature writing and the choices heavy with consequence leave a lasting mark. The console adaptation of combat stays a little stiff. For fans of narrative role playing and adult fantasy, this classic keeps great value today.
