Classic 2D versus fighter in the DBZ universe, solid and fast-paced. Substantial character roster, varied game modes. Less innovative than some competitors but faithful to the license and fun to play. A good Saturn-era DBZ.

Is Dragon Ball Z - Shinbutouden still worth playing in 2026?

The first Dragon Ball Z game on Saturn from Bandai, Shinbutouden offers a 2D fighting game featuring the anime characters in one on one clashes faithful to the series, with special moves and transformations. More classic and modest than the later entries, it lays the groundwork for the DBZ presence on the console, carried by the fidelity to the manga and the pleasure of duels. The depth stays limited. For a Dragon Ball fan, a retro versus fan or someone curious about the licence's beginnings on Saturn, the title keeps an above all heritage interest and a faithful mood.
