The Mega Drive adaptation of the first Dune, more adventure than strategy. A strange blend, sometimes fascinating, sometimes heavy, fine for novel fans.

Collector interest

Dune The Battle for Arrakis is the NTSC edition of Westwood Studios/Virgin's game, the Megadrive adaptation of the genre-founding RTS. Collector value comes from the game's historical position as the first console RTS.

Is Dune - The Battle for Arrakis still worth playing in 2026?

A Mega Drive adaptation of the founding real time strategy by Westwood, Dune II offers the conquest of Arrakis with three houses to choose and a spice harvesting system that would define the RTS genre for decades to come. The Mega Drive version loses the mouse but adapts rather well to the pad. Visually dated by now, the title remains an absolutely essential historical milestone for understanding the evolution of real time strategy on console today still here truly indeed for any RTS fan now.
