Direct sequel to the brilliant Earthworm Jim, with the same absurd humour and ever-more-delirious levels. Art direction and music are excellent. Still as funny and well-made today.

Earthworm Jim 2 on Saturn distills the Shiny series' absurd humour and cartoon animation into a North American port published by Playmates. The game circulated far more widely on Mega Drive, SNES and PlayStation, making the Saturn USA edition the least common version of this title. Its appeal lies in that comparative scarcity on a platform that stayed a minority in North America, and the enduring fondness for the worm.

Is Earthworm Jim 2 still worth playing in 2026?

Earthworm Jim 2 brings Shiny's zany platformer sequel to Saturn, in which the superhero earthworm crosses levels of embraced surrealism, multiplying wacky gameplay ideas from one board to the next. The cartoon humor, the expressive animation and the unbridled inventiveness stay its trademark, even if the uneven difficulty and some exasperating sequences divide. The crazy charm still holds up. For fans of eccentric retro platformers and absurd humor, it is a singular and memorable experience.
