A solid Master System port of the cult platformer. Jim's zany humor and impressive animations survive the downgrade well. A few uneven levels here and there but overall it holds up nicely.

Collector interest

Earthworm Jim on Master System is a Brazilian exclusive from Tec Toy in 1997, long after the 8-bit machine had vanished everywhere else. No PAL, US or Japanese release of this port exists, which concentrates all demand on the local cartridge and pushes complete copies sharply upward. The franchise's fame on 16-bit hardware draws a far wider audience than Master System collectors alone, broadening interest well beyond the platform.

Is Earthworm Jim still worth playing in 2026?

A late port of Shiny's famous platformer, Earthworm Jim stars an earthworm in a cosmic suit, armed with his own body as a whip and a gun, across delirious levels with absurd design. The cartoon humour, the expressive animation and the madness of the situations built the licence's reputation, and the Master System version manages to restore a surprising share of it. The gameplay stays demanding and sometimes finicky. For a fan of wacky retro platforming or a series fan, the title keeps an unbridled personality and a definite charm.
