Egyptian-catacomb FPS based on the Build engine. Unique atmosphere with ancient settings and varied bestiary. An interesting alternative to genre heavyweights on Saturn, still pleasant to play through.

Collector interest

Powerslave is an ancient-Egypt FPS by Lobotomy Software, whose in-house engine underpinned the Saturn ports of Quake and Duke Nukem 3D. The NTSC version had a very short Saturn run, making it one of the most coveted and expensive shooters on the console for collectors. Its technical reputation, ahead of the PlayStation conversions, and its exploratory level design sustain lasting demand well beyond its contemporary rating.

Is Powerslave still worth playing in 2026?

Exhumed, alias Powerslave, is a Lobotomy Software FPS set in a fantasized ancient Egypt, in which you explore labyrinthine temples while unlocking new abilities in a metroidvania manner. The non-linear exploration structure, the progressive powers and the polished Egyptian mood make it one of the machine's best FPS, surprisingly rich. The handling takes some getting used to. For fans of exploratory retro FPS and ingenious level design, it is an overlooked gem, well above average.
