Far Cry 4 carries the formula to Kyrat with Pagan Min as a chic, menacing villain. The Himalayan vistas are stunning, riding an elephant turns into an unforgettable running gag, and co-op sets the table for modern cooperative Far Cry.

Exotic landscapes of lush beauty, jungles, mountains and dazzling light: the open world breathes a wild, dangerous nature. The richness of the vegetation and the vividness of the colours compose a sumptuous playground. This visual direction, vast and shimmering, elevates a sandbox of rare generosity.
Cliff Martinez, coming from cinema, writes Kyrat a texture rather than a theme: analog synthesizer layers laid over Himalayan instruments, bowed strings, bells, flutes, sustained tones that let the mountains breathe. The Pagan Min scenes cut against that restraint, the electronics turning more biting, fitting a dictator who tends his appearance as carefully as his cruelty.
The story casts the player as a foreigner ordered to choose: Ajay returns to Kyrat to scatter his mother's ashes and finds himself arbitrating a Golden Path split between a modernizer and a traditionalist, neither of them presentable. Pagan Min, affable host and tyrant, opens the game with a dinner you need only wait out to find the most unsettling ending.
A direct sequel to the Far Cry 3 formula, transposed to a fictional Himalaya with a memorable antagonist, a big console success. Mass-printed, it stays accessible and without value. Its collector interest is heritage-based, that of a solid open-world entry, without scarcity or speculative demand, its run and availability remaining very wide.
Is Far Cry 4 still worth playing in 2026?
Released in 2014 on Xbox 360, Ubisoft's Far Cry 4 transposes the proven formula into Kyrat, a fictional Himalayan region of striking beauty, under the yoke of a colourful tyrant, Pagan Min. Adding verticality, the grappling hook and animal mounts enriches exploration and combat. The outpost conquest, hunting and crafting stay a joy. The formula, very close to the third entry, lacks a little renewal. But the playground and the freedom of approach amply make up for it. For fans of open world shooting and sandboxes, this entry keeps an excellent level of pleasure today.
