The DS 3D remake adapted to PSP: twenty-three switchable Jobs, secret dungeons, and a format slightly more comfortable on the bigger screen. Digital Japan-only, a pity, since it makes a fine doorway into classic FF3.

Japanese PSP port of the 3D remake of Final Fantasy III, released late in 2012 as the console was declining, which limited its run. This version enriches the DS remake with bonuses and is the most accomplished form of the third entry on handheld. Desirability rests on this late-run scarcity of a classic Final Fantasy in Japanese edition, sought by collectors of the series on PSP.

Is Final Fantasy III still worth playing in 2026?

A PSP port of the three-dimensional remake of Final Fantasy III, this Square Enix RPG follows four Warriors of Light in a world enveloped in darkness, with an interchangeable job system that grounds the entry's strategic depth. The job system, the careful art direction and the classic adventure keep a real JRPG charm, faithful to the series' founding spirit. The structure and the grind bear the marks of their age. An estimable pick for fans of retro JRPG and class systems.
