A peak for Nobuo Uematsu, the score culminates in an unheard-of opera scene and the deranged "Dancing Mad", feats of writing for the era. From "Terra's Theme" to the musical portraits of each hero, every track overwhelms. This lyrical ambition, unmatched on 16-bit, remains a monument of video games.

The Japanese version of the PlayStation port of Final Fantasy VI, rarer than its European counterpart and sought by those wanting this 16-bit classic in its original language on the console. This original edition, of limited local print, draws saga fans attentive to provenance. Its interest pairs the title's prestige with the difficulty of finding this Japanese pressing complete.

Is Final Fantasy VI still worth playing in 2026?

Final Fantasy VI is a Squaresoft masterpiece with a cast of fourteen memorable characters, operatic staging and Nobuo Uematsu's legendary soundtrack. Kefka remains one of the JRPG history's greatest antagonists, and the post-apocalyptic second act stays one of the medium's most striking narrative dares. The PS1 / Anthology port suffers from loading times but content stays intact. An absolute peak today.
