Square Enix Final Fantasy XI Online. The first PS2 MMO, the persistent Vana'diel world and tactical combat. Hugely ambitious with a steep onboarding curve. A console-MMO reference.

For this first online Final Fantasy, Naoshi Mizuta, Nobuo Uematsu and Kumi Tanioka sign an orchestral score of rare breadth, from the majestic title theme to the melodies of Vana'diel. The music wraps exploration and shared adventure in an epic, warm gust. This symphonic richness left its mark on a whole community.

Collector interest

This Japanese base edition of Final Fantasy XI marks the brand's first MMORPG and one of the few major console MMOs on PS2. Its collector value is now largely archival: the physical disc preserves the material trace of a persistent world whose original online access has shifted and shrunk. Owning Vana'diel in a Japanese box is about safeguarding a technical milestone rather than full playability, making it an artefact of the living history of networked gaming.
