Collector interest

Data East Japanese December 1994 edition of the Neo Geo CD port of Windjammers/Flying Power Disc, an arcade disc game signed by Data East rediscovered through Evo in the 2010s and a Neo Geo community cult. The Japanese cartridge is noticeably scarcer than the Export version and keeps the original Japanese voices of the athletes. Desirability rests on the cult status of the title, on the quality of the CD port with CD-Audio sound, and on the absence of a Western Windjammers AES run.

An underrated gem

Long a confidential title before a late re-release granted it cult status, this turbocharged frisbee duel rests on a crystal-clear premise hiding unsuspected competitive depth. Its apparent simplicity had masked its richness. Snappy, tense, and terribly addictive in two-player, it remains a must for versus fans.

Better with friends

A frenetic frisbee duel where two players whip the disc back and forth at top speed, with lobs, smashes and fearsome feints. The competition is of rare intensity: reading angles and reflexes decide everything, in exchanges as tense as they are addictive. Simple to grasp yet deep to master, it spawns fiery rivalries and an irresistible need to replay the next point.

Is Flying Power Disc ~ Windjammers still worth playing in 2026?

Flying Power Disc, known as Windjammers, is an ultra-direct arena game, almost too simple on paper, yet impossible to put down once a pad is in hand. Lobs, slices, special charges and tight angles build a duel of rare intelligence, readable at any speed. The acid art direction and the soundtrack have instant charm. On Neo Geo CD, the CD score sings and local multiplayer remains instant. For arcade retro sports fans and minimalist deep versus lovers, still an outright classic to bring out today without hesitation.
